Gujarat’s political landscape has always played an important role in shaping national politics. Even in 2025, the majority of voters in the state place trust in the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). For decades now, the BJP has a firm grip on Gujarat, and despite opposition efforts, its popularity shows no signs of waning.

From Keshubhai to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Anandiben Patel, Vijay Rupani, and now Bhupendra Patel, the BJP has written a saga of electoral success in the state.

One of the key reasons for the BJP’s sustained success in Gujarat is its stable and development-oriented leadership. Particularly during Narendra Modi’s tenure as Chief Minister, Gujarat witnessed unprecedented growth.

The much-talked-about “Gujarat Model” of governance brought industrial, economic, and social development to the forefront. Anandiben Patel and Vijay Rupani carried forward this legacy, and current Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel continues to uphold the public trust through his consistent governance and welfare-focused policies. This continuity in leadership has made BJP a dependable political choice for the electorate.

While opposition parties such as the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and the Congress have attempted to challenge the BJP’s dominance, their efforts have so far been unable to shake the party’s stronghold. A major reason behind this is the BJP’s robust organizational structure and deep penetration into both urban and rural areas.

Though there has been some weakening in party organization over the past 4-5 years, the BJP’s widespread network still enables it to effectively understand and address the issues faced by people. The party continues to enjoy immense popularity among the middle class and the youth, primarily due to its focus on employment, education, and infrastructure development.

Admittedly, some discontent is evident among Gujarat’s voters. The BJP government has faced criticism on various issues such as farmer distress, quality of education, frequent infrastructure failures like collapsing bridges, and concerns over drug trafficking.

Yet, a significant section of voters still views the BJP as the most credible option when compared to alternatives. The internal instability and lack of clear vision within opposition parties have only strengthened the BJP’s standing.

In conclusion, the trust placed by Gujarat’s voters in the BJP is the result of a decades-long journey of victories. The party’s consistent leadership, developmental agenda, and committed grassroots workers have made it nearly invincible in the state’s political arena. However, to maintain this trust in the future, the BJP will need to seriously address the emerging concerns of its electorate. As of today, Gujarat’s voters stand firmly with the BJP, and this trust will continue to play a pivotal role in shaping the political future of the state.

The absence of young Muslim leadership in Gujarat’s politics is a real and complex issue rooted in social, political, and historical contexts. While major parties like the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Congress, and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) dominate the state's political scene, meaningful representation of young Muslim leaders remains scarce.

One of the key reasons is political polarization. The 2002 Godhra incident and the communal violence that followed significantly deepened the divide between Hindu and Muslim communities in the state.

Since then, many political parties have been reluctant to field Muslim candidates, fearing a backlash or loss of votes due to polarization. This has especially hindered the rise of new and young Muslim faces, as parties tend to favor experienced and recognizable figures.

Secondly, there is a relative lack of educational and economic empowerment within the Muslim community, particularly among youth. Compared to other communities, Muslim youth often lack the confidence, resources, and networks necessary to rise through political ranks. Even when political awareness exists, the absence of social and financial support limits their ability to make an impact.

Another factor is the internal structure of political parties. Leadership opportunities are often controlled by dominant caste groups and well-established figures within parties. Muslim youth are rarely given chances to ascend to influential positions. For example, in the 2022 Gujarat Assembly elections, major parties gave very few tickets to Muslim candidates, and almost none to emerging young leaders from the community.

Moreover, conservative mindsets and fear of political backlash or violence discourage many young Muslims from entering the political arena. Concerns about communal tensions, social boycotts, and safety often outweigh the motivation to participate in active politics.

However, the rise of education and social media is slowly sparking political awareness and engagement among young Muslims. This change has the potential to reduce the leadership gap in the future.

To address this issue, political parties must actively encourage and nurture Muslim youth leadership. This includes creating more educational and leadership opportunities, ensuring equal representation, and fostering a social environment of trust and inclusivity. Only then can Gujarat’s political space become truly representative of all its communities.

From city squares to rural alleys, the BJP’s position is strong, consistent, and strategically aligned with the needs and emotions of the people. Meanwhile, the Indian National Congress remains in search of its lost connect with Gujarat’s voters.

Why BJP Still Rules Gujarat

The BJP’s success is not just about policy—it’s about proximity. Its vast network of grassroots workers ensures the party stays plugged into public concerns. Under Narendra Modi’s past leadership, Gujarat was positioned as a model of development, a legacy the party continues to cash in on. Welfare schemes, infrastructure growth, and central government synergy have all helped the BJP reinforce its image as a party of delivery and direction.

Congress: Still a Stranger to the Streets

Once a powerful force in Gujarat, the Congress now struggles with weak organization, unclear messaging, and a leadership vacuum. Young voters—many of whom have grown up under BJP rule—feel no connect with the Congress’s legacy or vision. Without influential local leaders or on-the-ground momentum, the party continues to lag behind.

Is a Comeback Possible?

A turnaround for Congress is not impossible—but it requires more than slogans. The party must invest in regional leadership, grassroots mobilization, and development-centric narratives that matter to modern Gujaratis. With rising expectations and a potential leadership transition post-Modi, BJP too faces challenges ahead.

The Final Word

In Gujarat, emotion, trust, and connection matter as much as policies. The party that can truly understand and respect these sentiments will own the future. For now, BJP holds that edge—but politics, like Gujarat’s spirit, never stands still.

In Gujarat’s diamond hub, Kumar Kanani, the elected representative from the Varachha Road constituency, has carved out a unique space for himself in the hearts of the people. Known for his simplicity, clarity of speech, and unwavering commitment to public service, Kanani exemplifies what people expect from a grassroots leader in Indian politics. A dedicated member of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), he continues to serve his constituency with a sense of duty that goes beyond mere political obligation.

Kanani’s journey began as an ordinary party worker. What set him apart was his sensitivity toward public issues and his tireless efforts to address them. Over time, this commitment earned him the trust of voters, eventually propelling him to the Gujarat Legislative Assembly. Since then, he has earned a reputation as an accessible, people-first leader who doesn’t shy away from raising local concerns at the state level.

One of Kanani’s defining qualities is his approachability. Unlike many politicians who distance themselves once elected, Kanani frequently visits his constituency, listens to people’s problems, and articulates their concerns with courage and clarity—whether or not it aligns with party narratives. In today’s political climate, such transparency and fearlessness are increasingly rare.

What also distinguishes him is his no-compromise attitude when it comes to social service. Whether it’s infrastructure issues, water shortages, education gaps, or healthcare needs, Kanani treats every issue—big or small—with equal seriousness. His hands-on approach makes citizens feel that their voice genuinely matters, and that their concerns are not lost in red tape or political apathy.

At a time when many politicians prioritize personal gain over public good, Kumar Kanani stands tall like a lamp in the dark—steady, guiding, and dependable. He dares to speak truth to power within the boundaries of decorum and democratic duty. His integrity and people-centric style are proof that politics can still be a noble path if pursued with sincerity.

Kanani’s personality is especially inspiring to the youth. He shows that more than degrees, it is clarity of purpose and sincerity of heart that matter in leadership. His humility, dedication, and forthrightness make him a role model for new-age public servants.

In an era when public trust in politics is declining, leaders like Kumar Kanani offer hope. His life is living proof that when a leader genuinely connects with the people and serves with honesty, trust naturally follows. His motto—among the people, for the people—is not just a slogan, but a way of life.

As he continues his journey with a sacred tilak on his forehead and the cause of the people on his lips, one hopes Kumar Kanani remains a beacon of service-driven leadership and an inspiration for future generations of Indian politics.

C.R. Patil, born in Jalgaon, Maharashtra, and a resident of Gujarat since 1953, was appointed the Gujarat BJP state president in 2020 and later became the Union Minister of Jal Shakti in 2024. As the first non-Gujarati to lead the Gujarat BJP, his rise highlights the Bharatiya Janata Party's (BJP) willingness to prioritize organizational skills and loyalty over regional identity. Patil’s Marathi origin did not hinder his ascent.

This kind of acceptance would be hard to imagine in states where regional identity is politically weaponized. In Gujarat, what matters more is contribution and capability — not where one is born. Patil is not an exception. Gujarat has, time and again, shown a political and social openness that allows people from different backgrounds to thrive.

Maharashtra has a deep-rooted Marathi linguistic and cultural identity, reinforced by the Samyukta Maharashtra movement of the 1950s, which led to the state’s formation. Regional parties like Shiv Sena and Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) often champion “Marathi Manoos” sentiments. Unlike Gujarat, where Patil’s long residence and fluency in Gujarati mitigated the “outsider” tag, a non-Marathi leader in Maharashtra might face greater scrutiny.

Shiv Sena and MNS capitalize on Marathi identity, and a non-Marathi leader could provide them with ammunition to portray the any party as disconnected from Maharashtra’s ethos. This risk is higher in Maharashtra than in Gujarat.

Maharashtra could theoretically appoint a non-Marathi BJP state president or central minister, but the decision would require careful navigation of regional sentiments.

On the other hand, despite the Gujarati community’s significant presence in Mumbai, very few Gujaratis have reached positions of true power in Maharashtra politics. Some names stand out — Gopal Shetty,Kirit Somaiya, and Manoj Kotak — all from BJP, representing constituencies with heavy Gujarati populations. However, even their rise has been relatively modest compared to their influence on the ground.

In the diverse fabric of India, where linguistic and regional identities often shape political narratives, Gujarat and Maharashtra offer two strikingly different approaches to regional inclusion — especially when it comes to accepting leaders or communities from outside their linguistic majorities.

Gujarat’s political culture has largely revolved around development, business, and pragmatism. In such a framework, regional identity becomes secondary to contribution and performance. Whether it's migrants from Maharashtra, Rajasthan, or even North India, Gujarat has historically shown a remarkable ability to absorb and integrate.

The entrepreneurial spirit of Gujaratis may also explain this — in business and in politics, results matter more than roots.

As India inches closer to becoming a truly inclusive democracy, states like Gujarat provide not just economic models to follow, but also social templates worth emulating.

"जो मनुष्य समय के कुचक्र मे भी

पूरी शिद्दत से अपने कार्यों में लगा रहता है।

उसके लिए समय खुद बदल जाता है।"

said Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj

This statement is not just a quote — it is the essence of life and the secret to triumphing over adversity. For the seasoned and devoted workers of the Gujarat BJP, it serves as a guiding force — teaching the importance of discipline toward leadership, loyalty to the organization, and the preservation of trust and respect.

Today, as the Bharatiya Janata Party stands tall as a powerful force in Gujarat for nearly 3 decades, the credit goes to the tireless commitment of its grassroots workers and their unwavering faith in leadership.

The Art of Overcoming Time, Inspired by Shivaji Maharaj

Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj was a warrior who fulfilled his vision of Hindavi Swarajya even amidst adverse circumstances. His life stands as a living example of discipline, organization, and devotion. Whenever enemies cornered him, or time tested his resolve, he never lost courage — turning situations to his advantage with strategic thinking and a disciplined army.

Today, BJP workers in Gujarat face similar political challenges, social opposition, and organizational hurdles. But Shivaji Maharaj’s words teach us that if we work patiently and with commitment, time will eventually favor us.

The BJP’s rise in Gujarat is not an overnight story. Behind this success lies the dedication of thousands of workers who put aside personal lives to strengthen the organization. These workers placed their trust in leadership and contributed with a disciplined spirit.

Discipline and Loyalty Toward Leadership

The strength of any successful organization lies in its leadership — and in the discipline shown by its members toward that leadership. The senior BJP workers in Gujarat have always respected every decision made by the leadership, be it election strategies or social service initiatives. This unwavering discipline, followed at every level, is what has made BJP unbeatable in Gujarat for more than 30 years.

When the leadership instructs that workers must reach every village to connect with people, they act without question. This level of discipline reflects the modern-day form of Shivaji Maharaj’s army.

Loyalty isn’t just about devotion to leadership — it’s also about firm belief in the goals of the organization. BJP workers in Gujarat have demonstrated this loyalty in every walk of life — whether through development work, public service projects, or the propagation of nationalism. Their commitment in all these fields is remarkable.

Trust and Respect: The Strength of the Organization

Just as Shivaji Maharaj trusted his soldiers and subjects — and in turn earned their undying respect — it was this mutual trust that enabled him to win seemingly impossible battles. These same two qualities — trust and respect — are also crucial for Gujarat BJP workers.

When the leadership launches a new campaign, the workers place complete faith in it and dedicate themselves fully to its success. This trust gives the BJP a strong foundation in Gujarat. The workers believe their organization will never misguide them.

This mutual respect is evident across villages and cities alike, where the BJP flag continues to fly high. The dedication of its workers and their reverence for leadership are key reasons behind the party’s continued success.

The Power of Devotion: Gujarat BJP as an Example

The veteran workers of Gujarat BJP have dedicated their lives to the organization. Whether it’s election campaigns or relief work during crises, these workers have always led from the front. Just like the soldiers of Shivaji Maharaj, who gave everything for Swarajya, these workers have committed themselves wholly to the nation and the organization.

This devotion is reflected in BJP’s uninterrupted victories in Gujarat’s elections. The tireless efforts of its workers and their steadfast loyalty to leadership have made Gujarat a stronghold for the party. Today, in every village and every city, BJP workers stand as a powerful force — spreading messages of nationalism and development to every household.

The life of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj teaches us that no matter how difficult the times, if we stay determined and continue our work with courage, success will eventually be ours.

For the experienced BJP workers in Gujarat, this message is a compass. By upholding discipline toward leadership, loyalty to the organization, and maintaining trust and respect, they are contributing to the building of the nation.

Gujarat is a state we proudly describe in many ways: the land of Mahatma Gandhi’s non-violence, Sardar Patel’s fearlessness, Narendra Modi’s vision for development, and Amit Shah’s political mastery. On this land of peace and prosperity, the challenges of crime and social unrest also exist. In such circumstances, the responsibility of maintaining peace and security in Gujarat lies in the hands of Chief Minister Bhupendrabhai Patel and the Minister of State for Home Affairs, Harsh Sanghavi.

Harsh Sanghavi is a young face in politics who holds the critical and challenging role of Home Minister. His firm approach and decision-making abilities set him apart. Managing the Home Department is no small task—it involves ensuring internal security, law and order, and public safety. Looking at Harsh Sanghavi’s youthful energy and working style, it seems clear that he is committed to overcoming these challenges.

The Challenge of Gujarat’s Safety and Security

Gujarat, being an economically and industrially developed state, naturally faces issues like smuggling of liquor and drugs, illegal activities, social unrest, crimes against women, and cybercrime. As Home Minister, Harsh Sanghavi has adopted a strict and proactive approach. Under his leadership, the performance of the Gujarat Police has improved significantly. His presence at police cadet graduation events and motivational speeches shows his dedication to strengthening the Home Department.

Balancing Youthful Energy with Responsibility

Harsh Sanghavi entered politics as a young MLA and quickly rose to the position of Minister of State for Home Affairs. At a young age, he has had the chance to prove his capabilities. Whether it was the Morbi bridge tragedy or illegal liquor rackets, he has faced difficult situations by addressing public concerns and providing reassurance. His direct and transparent communication style builds public trust. For example, during Navratri, he encouraged people to celebrate and enjoy Garba, showing that he values religious and cultural traditions as well.

A Blend of Toughness and Sensitivity

A successful Home Minister is recognized by both their firmness and their empathy towards the public. Harsh Sanghavi has tried to balance these qualities. By adopting a zero-tolerance policy against crime, he has sent a clear message that lawbreakers will not be spared. At the same time, he is working to make the police force more people-friendly. He also promotes youth involvement in employment and sports, strengthening the foundation of society.

Steadfast Amidst Challenges and Criticism

No political leader is free from criticism. Harsh Sanghavi is no exception. Some of his decisions—such as the use of police force or issues in criminal investigations—have faced questions. Yet, despite the criticism, he remains focused on his goal. Ensuring the safety and peace of Gujarat’s citizens remains the government’s top priority. He has worked to modernize the police department, improve training, and maintain direct communication with the public.

Harsh Sanghavi’s journey as a minister is still ongoing, and many challenges lie ahead. Maintaining law and order is a continuous process. However, his energy, fresh ideas, and dedication to the people suggest that he can become a strong pillar for Gujarat’s future generations. We hope that his contribution continues to make the state safer and more prosperous.

Today, Bhupendrabhai Patel is seen as a leader in Gujarat’s politics who has won people’s hearts through his calmness, transparent administration, and simple approach. As the Chief Minister of Gujarat, his journey reflects a kind of leadership that stays away from glamour and focuses on public service and development. His success has not come overnight but is the result of his consistent efforts, clear vision, and direct communication with the people.

A Blend of Calmness and Transparency

Bhupendrabhai Patel is known for quietly doing his work and letting results speak rather than making loud claims. His soft-spoken and humble style has made him popular among the people of Gujarat. From government officials to BJP workers, everyone praises his clear and efficient style of administration and decision-making. His transparent approach has not only made government work faster but also increased public trust.

His simplicity shows that in politics, success doesn’t come from big speeches or showy promises, but from commitment and dedication to work. Bhupendrabhai’s qualities have brought a new direction to governance, where public welfare is given top priority.

Direct Connection with People – A New Approach

In today’s age of social media, where the gap between politicians and people is increasing, Bhupendrabhai has tried to reduce this distance with his simplicity and direct communication style. He meets the public, BJP workers, and elected leaders, listens to their problems, and takes quick action. Because of this approach, people of Gujarat, BJP members, and his fellow MLAs believe that the government is with them and working for them.

His coordination with his Cabinet ministers is also worth mentioning. Bhupendrabhai works smoothly with his team and has successfully pushed forward many public welfare projects. This teamwork has helped Gujarat progress rapidly in infrastructure, education, and healthcare.

Success in Political Challenges

Politics brings new challenges every day. Bhupendrabhai Patel has faced many such challenges during his term but has always handled them with calmness and maturity. Whether it’s criticism from opposition parties or administrative difficulties, he has responded with patience and wisdom. This has increased public trust and brought new energy among BJP workers.

The Future of Gujarat’s Expectations

Under Bhupendrabhai’s leadership, Gujarat is moving into a new era. He has the ability to meet the expectations of the people, and his track record proves it. People are satisfied with his decisions and leadership, which is likely to further strengthen the BJP’s future success.

If Bhupendrabhai continues to live up to public expectations, he will write a new chapter in Gujarat’s political history. His leadership could become an example for other states too.

Bhupendrabhai Patel is a Chief Minister who wins people’s trust more through actions than words. His simplicity, transparency, and dedication to the people give him a unique identity. His commitment to Gujarat’s progress and public welfare shows that in politics, true success comes not from grand talks but from sincere hard work. The people of Gujarat see in him a leader who can fulfill their hopes and dreams – and we can hope that he continues to succeed in this journey.

Even during challenging times like the political crisis in Keshubhai Patel’s government, Narottambhai remained firm and stood with the party like a pillar. His dedication and courage during such periods show that he was not just a politician but a true soldier of the party who never compromised on his principles.

Even at an older age, he is known as "Narottam Kaka" and still actively takes part in social events and stays connected with party workers. This shows his inner strength and continued commitment to society.

One of Narottambhai’s biggest strengths is his personal connection with people and his bond with workers. His ability to connect with people is remarkable, which is why he always stayed close to the public. In politics, staying connected with the people is key, and Narottambhai mastered this art. His simple way of talking, his readiness to listen to problems, and his efforts to find solutions made him stand out. Because of these qualities, he became not just a leader but someone who lived in people’s hearts.

In today’s political world, where selfishness and personal gains often dominate, leaders like Narottambhai are a great example. He proved that true leadership is not just about gaining power, but about serving the people and treating party workers like family. His life teaches today’s youth that true success comes through dedication, honesty, and a spirit of service.

Narottambhai Patel’s journey is a perfect example of political commitment and social responsibility. His contribution to the BJP and the Mehsana community is priceless. Even at his old age, his active presence and strong connection with people show that real leadership goes beyond age.

Marathas have had a presence in Surat’s politics since the 17th century when Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj challenged the Nawab of Surat. However, in modern India, the emergence of Maratha politics in Surat can be traced back to the 1990s. During that period, many Marathi-speaking people from Khandesh migrated in search of jobs, primarily joining the police force.

Khandesh, located on Gujarat’s southeastern border, had limited employment opportunities. Since local Gujarati youth showed less interest in joining the police, recruitment policies favored migrants from Maharashtra.

At the time, the Congress party dominated politics, and while there were a few Marathi leaders, they remained confined to the municipal level due to the small Marathi-speaking population. However, post-1996, industrialization led to a surge in factories, drawing in workers from Maharashtra, especially Khandesh, as well as other regions.

With the growing voter base, political ambitions among Marathi leaders also increased. A significant shift occurred when Congress lost its dominance, and the BJP came to power. Leaders like Ravindra Patil rose to the position of Deputy Mayor, and C.R. Patil began to establish himself.

Currently, the Marathi-speaking voter base is estimated to be around one million. C.R. Patil has since become the President of Gujarat BJP and a Union Minister, while Sangeeta Patil has secured her position as an MLA for the third consecutive term.

The Future of Maratha Politics in Surat

The key question is whether Maratha political dominance will continue in the future. Experts believe that Maratha politics in Surat has reached its peak, but a leadership vacuum may arise in the next 2-3 years. Currently, no strong second-rank leaders have emerged, creating a potential power gap. However, some young leaders are preparing to step into this space.

Future Maratha Leaders

Jignesh Patil (Son of C.R. Patil)

Jignesh is active in social work and sports. He focuses on grassroots development programs and enjoys popularity among the youth. He serves as the chairman of the Beach Soccer Committee under the All India Football Federation and leads the NGO ‘Youth for Gujarat,’ which undertakes various development and welfare activities. Despite his father’s busy schedule, he meets with people, listens to their problems, and works toward solutions.

Dr. Nikhil Patil (Son of Ravindra Patil)

A doctor by profession, Nikhil runs his own clinic and is an active BJP member. He serves as the president of the Lions Club of Limbayat and the youth president of the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Memorial Committee in Limbayat. Recently, he has increased his political activity, evident from the strong support at events like the Shivaji Jayanti celebrations.

Sunil Patil

A former General Secretary of BJP’s Youth Wing and an active BJP worker, Sunil is also a young entrepreneur in the textile industry. He is deeply involved in social work and recently gained significant recognition for organizing the largest Shiv Katha event in Surat. He openly expresses his desire to enter politics and is prepared to contest elections if given a ticket. His large-scale organization of Shivaji Jayanti celebrations further indicates his growing political ambitions.

Samrat Patil

Like Sunil, Samrat is also a young entrepreneur and is equally active in politics. He played a significant role in organizing the Shiv Katha event and has made all necessary preparations to enter the political arena. Experts suggest that these Patil brothers have strong backing from top leaders in Delhi and Gandhinagar, which will help them shape their political careers.

Apart from these emerging leaders, other contenders are also working hard to establish themselves. However, the bigger question remains: Will Maratha dominance in Surat’s politics continue, or will Hindi-speaking leaders replace them? Considering the voter demographics, Hindi-speaking voters are almost equal in number to Marathi-speaking voters.

A detailed discussion on this evolving political scenario will be necessary at the right time.
