Speaker of the Gujarat Legislative Assembly and MLA from Tharad Assembly Constituency of Banaskantha district, Shankarbhai Laghadirbhai Chaudhary is one such person who has improved the lives of many people by fulfilling his duties in animal husbandry, agriculture, cooperatives and politics. Born in a farming family, Shankarbhai learned the lesson of hard work and simplicity from childhood.
Shankarbhai's work in the cooperative sector is significant. Since 2015, he has been the chairman of Banas Dairy. This dairy is Asia's largest cooperative organization. Under his leadership, the annual turnover of the dairy has increased to more than Rs 20,000 crore. More than one crore liters of milk are collected every day. He has taken forward programs that ensure farmers get good prices, get loans for cows and buffaloes, build modern breeding centers and increase income for women. By starting projects like Banas Kashi Complex in Uttar Pradesh, he has taken Gujarat's cooperative system to other states. He also works as the Vice Chairman of Gujarat State Cooperative Bank. All this work is the result of his continuous hard work and concern for farmers.
His personality is simple and responsible. At the age of 27, he entered the political arena by contesting elections from Radhanpur. Although he lost the first time, his courage caught the attention of the people. He won in 1998 and has been serving the people continuously since then. Today he is revered name in the Chaudhary community and OBC class. The people of Tharad and Vav areas know him as their leader. The work of water conservation, efforts to build 325 lakes show his foresight.
Shankarbhai has made a good contribution to social work. Now Anjana Chaudharies are focusing on education and economic reforms by reducing unnecessary expenses in the society. Banas Career Academy provides free guidance to the youth for GPSC and UPSC preparation. Dairy work earns women lakhs of rupees and makes them financially self-reliant. His efforts to work in the interest of people of all castes in Banaskantha are all-inclusive. In these works, He has shown the path to prosperity with the help of cooperation.
He is also a leader who takes his politics very responsibly. He worked as the Minister of State for departments like Health, Family Welfare, Urban Development and Transport in the Anandiben Patel government. In 2022, he won from Tharad with a good margin and became the Speaker of the Legislative Assembly. In this position, he is discharging her responsibility neutrally with the respect of all parties.
