Why are Students from Gujarat Going Abroad for Higher Education in Large Numbers?

According to an estimate, more than 50,000 students from Gujarat choose to go abroad for higher education every year. At one time, studying in the US, UK, or Australia was considered merely a matter of prestige, but today, a global degree has become a strategic necessity for a career. We want to analyze why students from Gujarat are heading abroad.

Various international studies show that Indian students primarily prioritize three reasons for studying abroad—global education, a degree with international value, and brighter career opportunities. In today's fast-paced era of globalization, just a degree is not enough for a good career; a global perspective, industry exposure, research experience, and the ability to work with diverse cultures have become equally important. This is because the world has become very small today.

Why are Gujaratis Leading the Way?

On the other hand, the very nature of Gujarat is global. Gujarat has always been ahead for centuries in trade, industry, and entrepreneurship. Today, the same mindset is visible in education as well. Students from Gujarat do not go abroad just to get a job after studying. They are choosing a global degree to take up leadership roles in global companies, expand their family businesses internationally, and connect with new technologies.

Especially in fields like Artificial Intelligence (AI), Data Science, Cyber Security, Fintech, Green Energy, Business Management, Healthcare, Design, and Creative Arts, global education keeps students ahead in world competition.

What is the New Change?

A significant transformation is also taking place in foreign education in recent years. Now, global education does not just mean going abroad for four or six years. Due to hybrid education, transnational education, and international pathway programs, students can obtain a global degree at a lower cost and in a more flexible manner. Today, through pathway models linked with various universities like those in Australia, students can start their studies in an Asian education hub like Singapore and then move forward toward an Australian degree. India's New Education Policy (NEP 2020) also promotes the internationalization of higher education.

Our experience as On Track Education says:

Today, students do not just need admission; they need the right direction. The same country or the same course may not be right for every student. Choosing a path aligned with their dreams, capability, budget, and career goals is what true counseling is all about.

For Gujaratis, who are experts in business, a global degree is no longer just a symbol of wealth, but the most valuable investment made in knowledge, skills, and global opportunities. In the coming decade, success will belong to those who choose education not just for a degree, but with a global mindset.
